About 200 fervent Canadian Fijians welcomed the Vodafone Fijian 7s team to a private party in Surrey, Canada last Friday night.

Many waved flags and banners as they basked in the party atmosphere at Wings Restaurant, a popular eatery owned by Canadian Fijian businessman Bobby Naicker.

The revellers sang to the famous Fijian sports tune ‘Au Qito Au Lasa’.

A huge roar went up from the crowd as the players were introduced.

The players mingled with fans who were treated to a dinner before signing autographs and got pictures taken.

Coach Ben Ryan spoke on behalf of the nation and the team.

“Without you we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t be world champions,” Ryan told the fans.

He thanked host Naicker, the fans and called out for support for the two-day Canada Sevens at the BC Place Stadium.

“Rio is our mission.

“We need to win the series and the Olympic gold.”
