Fiji Swimming held the 2016 season Long Course Grand Prix Series Two at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva yesterday.

Fiji Swimming vice-president Viliame Takayawa said although there were some complications in the starting of the competitions, competition went ahead as scheduled.

“We had some issues with the facilities and the competition was delayed for two hours and hopefully that will be fixed by the next Grand Prix Series Three,” he said.

Takayawa said they were looking forward and preparing for the Oceania Swimming Championship to be held in Suva in June.

“This is the second competition of the year as we prepare for the Oceania Champs. With this competition the swimmers will be able to qualify for the nationals,” he said.

“We have nine clubs and all have participated with many new swimmers.”

Fiji Swimming is also looking for sponsors to fund the National Championship on March 31.

“We would like to thank the Government for providing the funding last year to upgrade the facilities to host the Oceania Champs.

“For our contribution in Fiji Swimming is to try and get sports tourism by getting Oceania swimmers here.”

The Oceania Championship is held after every two years.
