All Ramayan Mandali in Labasa should make an effort to contribute to help families in Savusavu who were affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston, says Ashneel Chand.

The Shree Sanatan Dharam Tuatua Ramayan Mandali secretary and treasurer, who is based in Labasa, led a group of ten members and hand-delivered basic food items to five families in Savusavu yesterday.

“We didn’t know them personally and our intention was to help five families who had not received food rations and we happened to identify them,” Mr Chand said.

“I am aware that there are many religious groups that are not at all affected by the cyclone and I would like to urge them to make every effort to contribute at least something to help families in need.

“We are very fortunate and blessed to be spared from the wrath of Winston and in return we should help those who were not spared at all.

Nirmala Wati, one of the recipients, said she was happy to receive the food rations from this group.

“This was the first group that came over to me with food ration and I feel happy,” Ms Wati said.

The grandmother originally from Nakama in Savusavu said there were many others like her patiently waiting to receive food rations.
