Alleged Knife Attacker Was Under DVRO Says Police

A 39-year-old Labasa man who allegedly used a cane knife to attack his wife and daughter had already been issued a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO), Police said.
The father of three will appear in the Labasa Magistrate Court today.
The man has been charged with one count of serious assault and one count with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
It was alleged that last Friday night the man entered the house causing an argument with his wife.
His eldest daughter called the Labasa Police Station.
Northern divisional Police commander Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Bhawan Singh said the father allegedly picked up the cane knife and hit the wife on the arm.
“He also used the same cane knife to hit his daughter’s head and leg while she was trying to save her mother,” SSP Singh said.
“The Police officers tried to stop him and in the process he fought with them and punched a police officer on duty.
“He has been charged for two separate counts and will appear in Labasa Magistrates Court.”
The daughter early yesterday morning was transferred to CWM Hospital for further treatment while the mother is in a stable condition at Labasa Hospital.
