Council meetings placed on Hold

All provincial council meetings have been postponed to a later date, says Deputy Permanent Secretary for the iTaukei Affairs Board (TAB), Apakuki Kurusiga.
He told the Fiji Sun yesterday that the focus now was on relief and rebuilding in the provinces affected by Tropical Cyclone (TC) Winston.
“Usually the first provincial council meeting is in March,” he said.
Some provinces, he said, have already had their district meetings; and for those that haven’t he said were also postponed.
Mr Kurusiga said the headmen in all the affected villages had contacted his office and reported on the damage.
Mr Kurusiga said on the rebuilding the board was now looking at a standard house plan that could be used Fiji-wide.
“A plan is with the Regional Development and it can be used,” said.
The most important thing in building new houses he said was for the contractors to follow the Building Code.
Mr Kurusiga said that most houses were damaged as the Building Code was not properly followed.
