Crops Trade Will Take Years To Recover: Commissioner

Dalo, coconut and yaqona farming business on Taveuni Island will take many years to recover, says Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea.
TC Winston has caused millions of dollars of damages in agriculture sector and businesses.
When questioned about the cost of damages, Mr Vocea said he did not have the exact figure.
“The Detail Damage Assessment teams and Department of Agriculture have been doing assessment after assessment to fully determine the cost of the damage sto crops on the island,” Mr Vocea said.
“I am expecting to receive a report of damages this week.”
He said farmers in Bua and Cakaudrove were supplied with seeds of short-term vegetables and crops such as kumala to plant.
He said the fully grown crops would be a good source of food security.
Meanwhile, food rations would continue to be supplied to the affected areas in the Northern Division.
