Four passengers were rushed to the hospital in two separate road accidents in the Western Division yesterday afternoon.

Three passengers were rushed to the Lautoka Hospital while the 23-year-old driver from Kulukulu is in Police custody.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu confirmed that the incident happened around 4pm.

“The taxi was travelling from Kulukulu when the vehicle they travelling veered off the road in Olosara,” he said.

“Three passengers were on board and rushed to the Sigatoka hospital then to Lautoka hospital due to the injuries sustained.” he said.

“It is likely they were over speeding and the 23-year-old driver is in Police custody.”

The National Fire Authority officers were present at the scene to assist the trapped passengers.

Meanwhile, another incident involved a taxi in Lovu, Lautoka.

He said the taxi was travelling towards Ba when it tumbled over.

“There were two passengers in the taxi with the driver when the incident happened.

“One was rushed to the hospital and the driver was called to the Lautoka Police Station for caution,” Inspector Weicavu said.

He said Police has sent a stern warning to the road users especially to PSV licence holders to exercise caution while serving the public.

“PSV drivers need to take their roles seriously rather than see their licence being revoked,” he said.

“We need to save lives on our roads or otherwise the law will not spare the drivers who do not adhere to law.”
