Nakodu villager Isoa Tagi is planning to restore the family business after recovering at the Colonial War Memorial hospital in Suva from injuries he sustained during Cyclone Winston.

The 51-year-old has been admitted at the CWM Hospital for the past two weeks and was badly injured at the village from broken glass from a window that was smashed by the powerful winds.

The monster Cyclone Winston, which was generating gusts of over 300 km per hour winds, completely destroyed their home and small shop.

Spouse 47-year-old Talica Tagi who was visiting relatives in Suva during the cyclone related what happened to Isoa and their three daughters who were at home.

“Our glass window was broken by the strong winds and pieces of glass injured his legs,” she said.

Mrs Tagi said their small shop and house were completely destroyed by the winds.

“My husband and three daughters were stuck and my daughter had no idea what to do,” she said.

“Some men from our village carried my husband and took them to the evacuation centre.”

Mrs Tagi said luckily they survived and for three days her husband was looked after by the villagers at the evacuation centre.

“The Koro Health Centre was completely devastated by the cyclone so when the medical team from Suva came to Koro Island, then my husband was brought to CWM Hospital,” she said.

Mrs Tagi said she went back to her village and in an aircraft accompanied her husband and three daughters to Suva.

“I was worried about my family but luckily they were safe,” Mrs Tagi said..

“After my husband recovers, we will go back to our village and start our small family business again.”
