The National Fire Authority has yet to determine what caused the fire at a warehouse in Walu Bay on Saturday.

The NFA said the building was totally engulfed with fire when their team arrived but the fire crew were able to stop it from spreading to other buildings.

The warehouse owned by Real Fisheries was destroyed in a fire in Walu Bay, Suva at around 2pm on Saturday.

An employee of Real Fisheries Josateki Ralulu said he was at the scene when the incident happened.

“I went to the washroom at about 12.30pm and then I was alerted that the building was on fire; by 1.30pm the whole building was engulfed in flames,” Mr Ralulu said.

“I really didn’t know what had happened; we called the National Fire Authority straight after the incident happened but they arrived 20 minutes later because when we were calling them, their phones were engaged.”

“When the fire team reached the fire scene the warehouse was completely on fire,” said National Fire Authority chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai.

“They managed to put out the fire and stop the spread to other building.”

Mr Moceitai said no one was injured in the fire.

The corrugated iron and timber warehouse is located behind the Education Resources Centre and near the old government supplies building in Walu Bay.

Meanwhile, the NFA were continuing with their investigations
