Reddy Approves Fundraising

The Ministry of Education has given schools around the country the go-ahead for fundraising activities to help with their rehabilitation.
However, the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy has stipulated that the contributions for the fundraising activities should be done voluntarily, that is; ‘no levy but on voluntary basis’.

“We have written to the schools and they are not supposed to levy, but it’s a voluntary contribution,” Mr Reddy said.

He said the respective schools would collect the funds then the ministry would hand deliver the funds to the Prime Minster Relief Funds to assist schools.
A Nadi school which escaped the devastating winds has taken the campaign to another level raising funds for other schools that were not so fortunate.
Namaka Public School has completed its week-long class based freewill collection campaign raising close to $5000 last week for this purpose.
Namaka Public School headteacher Anasa Vateitei said the divisional education officer in Lautoka was assisting them in identifying badly affected schools in the interior of the Ra province to hand over their assistance.
