Govt To Unveil Cyclone Winston Housing Plan

Government will soon announce its Tropical Cyclone Winston housing plan.
This was revealed yesterday by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at Namarai Village in Rakiraki.
After visiting the many areas affected by the cyclone and listening to their views the PM said what they really wanted now was a home that could withstand the disaster.
Mr Bainimarama said Government had two options, one was for Government to provide the funding and a contractor to build the house or the other was for the State to give the money to home owners and for them to build.
He said he preferred the second option as many houses had been demolished.
Home rebuilding in all the villages visited yesterday had started.
At Namarai village 26 houses were totally damaged.
Village chairman of the disaster committee, Iowane Bula said yesterday that they had rebuilt 16 homes.
A non-governmental organisation Friends had donated 10 pieces of roofing iron for each damaged home owner in the village.
