PM: Donations Will Go Long Way

The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, has assur’ed every Fijian that donations made towards the PM’s Relief Fund particularly for Tropical Cyclone Winston would go a long way.

Mr Bainimarama made this comment as donors keep flooding in.

The Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA), the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-I-Islam (Lahore) Fiji and the Vatukoula Gold Mines were among those who presented cheques towards the fund yesterday.

The FPRA made a donation of $17,300, the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-I-Islam (Lahore) Fiji presented a cheque of $30,300 while the Vatukoula Gold Mines donated $100,000.

Mr Bainimarama acknowledged the efforts shown by these groups and associations and said their donations would be put to good use in rebuilding the lives of ordinary Fijians who were affected by the recent TC Winston that hit Fiji more than three weeks ago.

FPRA Music Awards co-ordinator Seru Serevi said they were able to collect their donation through a concert they staged which included top local musicians.

“Some of our greatest contemporary musicians come from Koro Island, Taveuni and Rakiraki – which bore the brunt of TC Winston. We simply could not sit around and watch as they lost everything they had,” Mr Serevi said.

“So we helped the best way we knew how – with music.”

The Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-I-Islam (Lahore) Fiji president, Mehboob Raza, said they just wanted to assist the victims affected by TC Winston in any way they could.
