A prominent businesswoman, social worker and philanthropist, Ram Kuar Karan passed away on Saturday at her residence.

She was the wife of Late  Ram Karan, founder of Ram Karan Kava Dealers Ltd and mother of Premila Kumar, Prem Prakash Karan, Anil Prakash Karan, Sunil Prakash Karan, Shushila Narayan, Anjila Prasad and Shalini Karan.

Together with her husband she developed her company Ram Karan Kava Dealers Ltd which originally specialised in kava business but later diversified into exports of local fresh and frozen produce.

Her eldest daughter Premila Kumar is the Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Council of Fiji.

Mrs Karan was the founder of Bureta Mothers’ Club and was its President  for almost 4 decades.

She was a kind hearted and hardworking person and was known for her charitable work.

Originally from Baulevu, Naitasiri, Mrs Karan devoted her life not only in bringing up and educating her children but also actively assisting relatives and the community.

She was noted for her social and religious work and never hesitated to take lead in important events.

One of her noblest contribution is spearheading the construction of Mandir/Hall in Bureta Street for the community.

Mrs Karan has left behind 3 sons and daughters in law, 4 daughters and sons in law; 15 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 5 sisters and relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held on Thursday 17 March at 2.30 pm at the Dignified Crematorium in Davuilevu.
