Ra Rehab Work Praised

Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau has praised the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) and its maintenance contractor Higgins (Fiji) limited for the rehabilitation process in the Ra province.
“I thank FRA and Higgins for working around the clock in allowing us the accessibility to some of the affected people in the highlands of Ra,” Mr Tagicakibau said.
Mr Tagicakibau said most of the bridges were severely damaged by cyclone and floodwaters.
“They (Higgins) managed to put temporary crossing that allowed heavy trucks to pass through the highlands enabling us to reach the population and go through to deliver relief items to the coast of Ra as well.”
Higgins (Fiji) Limited Contract Manager Patrick Wardlaw said: “The teams on the ground are visiting those structures to check fully what we’re still working on.
“We are making very good progress, but there are still about three major bridges, which we are still working on.”
Close to 120 people are working on this in Ra province including 80 from Higgins.
