Top rugby 7s clubs in the country have confirmed their participation in the 3rd Martintar 7s tournament to be played at Prince Charles Park, Nadi from tomorrow.

Champion clubs like Ratu Filise from Namatakula, First Landing and Hideaway Hurricanes have registered for the tournament.

Their presence is going to create an interesting battle against defending champions Tokatoka Westfield Dragons, Wardens, Army, Police and Tabadamu in the two-day tournament.

Tournament co-ordinator Biu Waqaniburotu said, so far they have released four pools of four teams.

“We are trying to make 12 pools but confirmations through payments are not really promising. Teams are reminded to pay their fees to confirm participation as more than 60 teams have verbally confirmed but only over 30 have paid up,” he said.

He said mobile network provider Digicel has re-engaged their partnership for the third year in a row since the tournament began in 2014.

“They have been supportive for the last three years and we are optimistic that they will become a major supporter in the near future,” Waqaniburotu said.

“The kind sponsorship from Digicel will allow spectators to win some great prizes during the two days as we want to create an atmosphere to engage players, spectators and sponsors.”

Digicel Fiji’s PR and sponsorship manager, Satish Narain said they are proud to support the tournament.

“This being the third year for our support for this event, providing rugby balls, free credit and data vouchers which will be used as prizes for players and rugby fans as an extra added incentive. Digicel has been an avid supporter of rugby sevens in this country and we are pleased to be able to pitch in with some help for the Martintar 7s organisers. We hope the fans enjoy the game and also be in there to win some great prizes.”

The games will start at 9am tomorrow and on Saturday at 8.30am and the final is anticipated to commence from 2.30pm.
