Police have not ruled out the possibility that Mere Ailevu was gang raped, says Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

The 14-year-old student of Lomary Catholic Primary School was found half-naked, dead with a Tee-shirt tied around her neck at Loloma Beach, Pacific Harbour on Monday. Police have already determined that she was brutally raped, sodomised and killed.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said: “We are investigating all possibilities and have not ruled out gang rape just yet. Our investigations are continuing and officers are working around the clock to solve this crime.”

The post mortem examination report has determined brain haemorrhage as her cause of death.

Mere’s parents are hopeful that justice would be served. She will laid to rest today.

On the request of her classmates, Mere will be making a final journey to her classroom before she is escorted by her mates to church a service before her funeral.
