Rugby League Fever Grips North

The Fiji National Rugby League will soon start the Labasa and Savusavu competition. This was confirmed on Thursday after FNRL officials met with officials of interested clubs in the North at the Fiji Sports Commission office in Labasa.
FNRL north operations Mika Cabealawa said before they used to have rugby league matches played in Dreketi.
“It will be sometimes in May when we will have rugby league games played in Labasa and Savusavu,” he said.
“Six clubs in Labasa and eight clubs in Savusavu have confirmed their participation. The winner from the Labasa, Savusavu and Dreketi zones will travel to Suva to play in the quarter-finals. We have elected one president in Labasa and he is Nazim Shah and the president for Savusavu is Veresa Maulawa.”
Next week we will conduct our first annual general meeting with all club representatives at Maramarua Primary School in Dreketi.
Transportation has been arranged for all representatives.
FNRL operations manager Josefa Finau said clubs in the North had already declared their interest to join the sport.
“We are happy to see these clubs showing lot of enthusiasm. There are many talented players in the Northern Division, which we hope to identify and develop.”
