The Land Transport Authority will investigate bus companies which fail to give priority to school children on school buses.

LTA chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said bus operators are given licenses that permit them to do school runs.

Only parents of class one and two students can travel in these buses because they are dropping off their children, he said.

“People boarding school buses are to be aware that the first priority are school students.

“Members of the public boarding the school buses should be considerate to allow the students to sit and not stand as these buses are provided for their transportation.”

Mr Tuinaceva is also calling on parents to report the matter to LTA.

“Parents should report these incidences where their children’s space in the school bus is being taken by adults.

“The priority are the students and this is not going to be tolerated by LTA and offenders will be held liable,” Mr Tuinaceva said.
