Telecom Fijian Warriors right wing Lepani Raiyala was thanking his lucky stars yesterday after he was cleared by the Oceania Rugby judiciary. Raiyala was red carded against Tonga A last Thursday, but was later cleared after the judiciary found out that the call for his dismissal was wrong.

“I will be out to prove myself against Samoa A in the final,” he said after the captain’s run.

The 28-year-old Nakorosule native from Naitasiri was relieved to be back in the team and named to play in tonight’s final.

“After knowing the decision, I was really happy. I was happy to be here again with the boys training. It just gave me confidence to work even harder for tomorrow’s final and show that I am a good player on and off the field.”

Representing the Warriors for the first time, Raiyala said it was an honour playing in the final of the Pacific Challenge.

“It feels good to be back and playing in the final. Last year I was here with the team but I got injured and couldn’t play. So being here today means something special to me and I have been giving my all since I started training with the team.

Raiyala said he hopes to keep his form because of his intention to represent his country by playing for the Vodafone Flying Fijians.

“Anything is possible and I always try to give my 100 per cent every time I go out there wearing the Warriors jersey. It will be a tough game against Samoa A and very physical as well but that will only make the game more exciting for the fans to watch.”
