Church of God Sunday school teacher, Alumita Kalala, broke down in tears as she saw Mere Ailevu’s place left vacant with silence during Palm Sunday yesterday.

“Just last Sunday she was preparing for Palm Sunday with the children and today she is no longer with us,” Ms Kalala said.

The 14-year-old student of Lomary Catholic Primary School was found half naked, dead with a Tee-shirt tied around her neck at Loloma Beach, Pacific Harbour, last Monday. Sh had been raped and murdered.

“Today is just heartbreaking for the whole church and members of our Sunday school; I was looking forward to seeing her in her white dress and reciting her favorite bible verse,” Ms Kalala said.

“She was a good girl, very responsible and what had happened to her is just unbelievable.

“She was responsible and I usually depended on her to assist me in organising the children in church.”

Police reported she had been brutally killed.

Ms Kalala said ‘Meme’ as she was known to the church, was a child that had the passion of taking part in church activities.

“We are at peace that she is now resting in the arms of God; and we know that whoever did that shameful act on her; will be brought to justice in God’s own time.

“Today there was a five minutes silence in the church to commemorate her death; the church was filled with emotions.”

Mere’s mother, Sili Keni said her family was still trying to come to terms with the death of their daughter.
