Swire Shipping will launch a monthly direct call from New Zealand and Fiji to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea with the first vessel arriving on May 4.

Swire Shipping’s general manager, Liner Trades, Jeremy Sutton said “Swire Shipping has provided multipurpose liner service in the Asia Pacific region for over 100 years.”

He said the introduction of a direct port from New Zealand and Fiji to Port Moresby further supports Swire Shipping’s commitment to the PNG community.

“The enhance service will offer an eight-day transit time from New Zealand, ideal for time-sensitive or refrigerated cargo and four direct calls per month from Brisbane, Australia. It is the only direct service connecting Lautoka and Suva to Port Moresby. In return, it offers up to three calls per month from Port Moresby to the rest of Asia.”

He indicated that the service upgrade would be supported by Swire Shipping’s multipurpose vessels, MV Kwellin and MV Nanchang from its East South East Asia (ESEA) service which are capable of carrying containerised, refrigerated, breakbulk and project cargoes.
