Fire Services Boosted

The National Fire Authority yesterday accepted seven fire trucks from the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Kumar at the authority headquarters in Suva.
The seven fire trucks were acquired from Australia following Government’s $400,000 grant to NFA for the purchase of the used fire trucks. This was to help resource the 17 Fire Stations around the country as well as $200,000 for the purchase of specialised gear.
Mr Bala said that he was happy to hand over the trucks as it would greatly enhance the firefighters response to emergencies.
“The acquisition of the seven fire trucks will enhance the NFA’s responsiveness to any emergency with a boost in the vehicle capacity in all its Fire Stations,” Mr Kumar said.
Along with the fire trucks, Country Fire Authority of Australia has donated protective firefighting equipment involving two sets of Lukas Hydraulic Rescue Kits for road accident rescue operations and protective gear in the form of fire boots, safety boots, overalls, firefighting gloves and safety goggles.
Mr Kumar also acknowledged the NFA for working hard with the National Disaster Management Office during and after Cyclone Winston.
