The Catholic Church in the Central Eastern division celebrated the Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva on Tuesday.

Under normal circumstances, chrism is consecrated by the bishop in the presence of the Presbyterium (all the priests) at the Mass of the Chrism. This only takes place in the morning of Holy Thursday today before the last supper.

Here the celebration of the Mass of Chrism took place in three locations; in the West, in the North and in the Central/Eastern Region.

After the Mass of Chrism, oil stocks for the parishes are filled and given out to the parishioners so that they may be presented in each parish at the Mass of the Last Supper this evening.

Director communication Archdiocese of Suva John Pickering said the priest needed to be present in their respective parishes today which was the reason why they moved the Chrism mass to Tuesday.
