Beqa Yanuca Secondary School student, 16-year-old Merewalesi Marama is excited about representing her school at next month’s Coca-Cola Games.

Yesterday she won the Intermediate Girls 200 meters in a time of 28.17 seconds.

This is not only her first win, but also her first race in a zone meet.

“I did not think I would come first and beat schools like Suva Grammar School or Gospel High School but I am so happy.

“I have always wanted to take part in the Coca-Cola Games; I see it on television and watch all the athletes every year and I always imagine being like them and running on the track having the crowd cheer for me.

“Now I will finally get that opportunity to run at the Coke Games, I am a bit nervous and excited at the same time but I want to do my best for my new school,” Marama said.

As a new student at Beqa, Marama is not only overwhelmed by the win, but determined to make her parents and coach proud next month.

“The atmosphere during the zone was very good, I have never experienced something like this before, and this makes me want to train harder to make sure I grab gold again for this event.

“I want to thank everyone who believed in me and to thank God for giving me the ability to run.”
