In bid to help people affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston, people of Rotuma donated 151 bags of dalo and 131 bags of husked coconut towards the Prime Minister’s Relief and rehabilitation programme on Tuesday.

Some chiefs came all the way from Rotuma to hand over the 151 bags of dalo and 131 bags of husked coconut.

Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu thanked the people of Rotuma for their kind assistance towards people affected by the cyclone.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Council of Rotuma and people of Rotuma for the kind donation towards people of Fiji affected by Winston,” he said.

Mr Moroivalu said they would be distributing dalo and coconut husk to people affected by cyclone in Western Division, Central Division and to people on Ovalau Island.

“This reflects positive feelings of people of Rotuma towards Fijians,” he said.

Chief of Noatau village on Rotuma Island Gagaj Maraf said: “We are happy to present our humble contribution towards PM relief and rehabilitation programme.”

“We are aware that many people are affected by the impact of Cyclone Winston and they lost their home and some have lost their loved ones.

“We sympathises with you and people of Rotuma have joined in hand together to help,” he said.
