Former Native Land Trust Board (NLTB) board member, Keni Dakuidreketi’s application for leave to appeal his conviction and sentencing was granted yesterday by the Fiji Court of Appeal.

Dakuidreketi was convicted of five counts of abuse of office for the purpose of gain last year and was sentenced to six years imprisonment with a non-parole period of five years.

Dakuidreketi appeared alongside former NLTB general manager, Kalivati Bakani.

The two appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar.

Bakani’s application for leave to appeal sentencing was also granted by the Fiji Court of Appeal, however, Dakuidreketi’s bail application pending leave was refused.

Bakani was sentenced to four years imprisonment last August after he pleaded guilty to five counts of abuse of office.
