For Fulton Hogan Hiways, the workshop on proper chainsaw operation could not have come at a better time, for the date it was held was February 19th, one day before the arrival of Cyclone Winston.

Over the subsequent weeks since Winston, the chainsaw continues to be a primary tool in the arsenal of weapons being used to repair the damage caused by the cyclone.

Thirty-six of the machines are now being shared by the Fulton Hogan Hiways crews and selected sub-contractors in the Central and Northern Divisions clearing the hundreds of uprooted trees and vegetation the cyclone left in its wake.

Fulton Hogan New Zealand’s national trainer Eddie Mee, organised the workshop, the third he has held in Fiji.

Twenty-nine workers took part, adding to those already trained in the discipline.

Working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority, the joint venture company continues to develop its capacity building programme to ensure a “strong road maintenance team into the future.”
