An overseas based-player has confirmed his availability to represent the Vodafone Fijian 7s team to the Hong Kong and Singapore tournaments.

Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan who is yet to announce his name has indicated the player has been released from his club and is now working hard on his fitness.

The other new player that has joined the training squad yesterday was Josateki Tuilawaki. He was spotted by Ryan while playing for Tabadamu during the Stronger than Winston 7s tournament last month.

“I’ve watched him play in the Winston Cyclone Appeal Sevens, I thought he was a nice playmaker,” he said.

“He has been around in the local circuit for a long time and I thought he deserves a chance to come and join training and see how he gets on and he has been great.”

Ryan added that when he first joined three years ago getting playmakers was a big concern as top names like Nikola Matawalu, Metuisela Talebula and Jioji Raqamate have taken-up overseas contracts but now he is happy with the team he has got.

“We are trying to have this pool of playmakers in the halfbacks and we have a lovely pool of players now. We have Emosi (Mulevoro), Jerry (Tuwai), Amenoni (Nasilasila), Vatemo (Ravouvou), Osea (Kolinisau) and Kitione (Taliga) as well as Alifereti (Veitokani). We’ve got a lovely wealth of playmakers.”

With the two joining the squad and awaiting confirmation on the results of Isake Katonibau and Vatemo Ravouvou’s rehab, Ryan says, he will weigh all these things up and will make a decision soon after that.
