It was a tough first day for the Vodafone Fijian 7s team as they went through a torrid training session at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour yesterday.

Veteran Isake Katonibau and Vatemo Ravouvou who suffered ankle and knee injuries in the last leg of the World Sevens Series sat out during training as they were in the last stage of their rehab programme.

However, on a positive note forwards Viliame Mata and Apisai Domolailai were back training in full force after missing out the last leg due to injuries.

Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan said the players were a bit slow off the blocks and that is the reason why most of them found the training tough. “After this we will give them four days off than next week we will go hard and then we will be highlighting the contact areas and the physical elements of our game,” he said.

Ryan added the team would be working on their accuracy at breakdowns and on their one-on-one tackle technique, which he described they were normally good at.
