FASANOC in partnership with the Uto ni Yalo Trust will be embarking on a cyclone relief voyage to Levuka this weekend.

This is in support of the Baba community, the home of many of FASANOC’s weightlifting family.

The relief items were donated by FASANOC staff members and national sporting federations.

FASANOC chief executive officer, Lorraine Mar said they were grateful to the Uto ni Yalo Trust and crew for their assistance in transporting relief supplies over to Levuka.

“With their help we will be able to support some of our athletes and administrators who have been badly affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston” she said.

“Many of them have had their homes destroyed and lost everything so we are trying our best to help them get back on their feet.”

Mar also thanked FASANOC sponsors FIJI Water for the supply of bottled water and Star Printery for the exercise books and boxes to pack relief supplies.

The Uto ni Yalo Trust (formerly known as the Fiji Islands Voyaging Society) is dedicated to reviving sustainable sea transportation by rejuvenating and sustaining traditional Fijian canoe building, sailing and navigation skills.

The trust was established in 2010 and is the custodian of the vaka moana Uto ni Yalo.

On this voyage, the Uto ni Yalo will be crewed by former Team Fiji athletes and FASANOC is proud to partner with the Uto Ni Yalo Trust for such a worthy cause.

The 22-foot double hull canoe will be travelling 45 nautical miles from Suva to Levuka to deliver two tonnes of relief supplies.
