Power Disruption Not An Issue Unless Diesel Generators Fail

Fiji Electricity Authority has confirmed that the power disruptions will not be a problem as long as the diesel generators don’t give up.
“Unless any diesel generators fail, we should not expect power outage,” Executive Projects & Public Relations manager Karunesh Rao said.
Wailoa power station’s main inlet valve is under repair and FEA is using diesel generators to supply power during the Easter weekend.
“The best time to do maintenance work is either during Easter or Christmas, where there is at least four days holiday and there is a low demand for electricity as most companies and factories are closed, which allows us to use diesel generation sets temporarily which supply sufficient energy,” Mr Rao said.
Within these four days FEA is working to fix the Wailea Power Station, so the public can be back to using its normal power supply rather than diesel generators.
“We should have power through this Easter weekend, but if the diesel generators fail then we will have power outages for a few days until it is restored,” Mr Rao said.
