Tailevu North Secondary School athlete Titilia Adivakaturaga stole the show at the Tailevu Zone competition at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Thursday.

She took out the senior girl’s 200 metres final and later anchored her school’s 4x100m senior girl’s relay team to first place.

Speaking to SUNsports, the 19-year-old from Naivuruvuru in Verata, Tailevu said she was aiming to end her last year in high school on a positive note.

And for her, that is to win a gold medal at the Coca-Cola Games, which will be from April 29-30.

“This is my second year taking part in athletics in the zone and also at the Coke Games and I’m really excited,” she said.

“Last year I took part in the Cokes I came third in the 100 metres but I want to change that this year by coming first. It is my last year in high school and I want to leave knowing that I have won something in a popular event like the Coca-Cola Games.

“I know it will be hard because I will be running against some of the best from schools around the country but I am willing to try my best.”

While most athletes get special trainers or coaches, Adivakaturaga trains with her dad Sanivalati Vukileca who used to run at the Coca-Cola Games when he was at tending Suva Grammar School.

“I have been trained by my dad and I am lucky to have him because I trust him that he knows what he is doing,” she said.

“Every time I come out and run, I always want to prove myself to him and show him that his hard work and the time he has invested into me is paying off.

“So winning my two events is something I know he will be proud of and I want to get that gold not only for me but for him as well.”
