Traffic And Street Lights Disabled For Safety Measure

Pedestrians and drivers are advised to exercise ‘extreme caution’ on the roads as streetlights and traffic lights are being disabled for safety measure.
This move was made after a fault was found at the Fiji Electricity Authority’s Wailoa Power Station to Cunningham in Suva and Vuda causing power outages throughout Viti Levu.
A release from the Fiji Electricity Authority chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel on March 24 said: “Our teams are in the process of identifying this fault before it is rectified.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and will endeavor to keep any disruptions to a minimum during this weekend.”
Fiji Roads Authority Maintenance Works manager Aram Goes said it was shutting down all traffic signals throughout the long weekend.
This is done to avoid confusion to the road users and protect the traffic signal circuitry, he added.
Prime Fiji Works manager Atu Matavesi is requesting drivers to follow the sign boards on the road and stay within the speed limit to avoid any mishaps on the roads.
“We have a temporary roundabout at Princess Road and Kinoya to control drivers from over speeding since there are no traffic lights this Easter weekend,” Mr Matavesi said.
“The power is going on and off and just for safety measures we have switched off all traffic lights to avoid any disruptions in the weekend if FEA decides to off the power,” Mr Matavesi said.
The traffic lights are expected to be back on by Tuesday before peak hours.
“On Tuesday around 6am the traffic lights should be operational, if the power is back on from the FEA,” Mr Matavesi said.
