Youth Perform Crucifixion Drama

The re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was observed in many Christian denominations around the country and the world yesterday.
Carrying on the tradition were the youths of St Pius Parish.
They performed the moving drama that brought to life Jesus’ struggling moments on that street of the Old Jerusalem on that Good Friday.
It brought many in the Raiwaqa congregation to tears.
Parish priest Father John McEvoy said the drama was taken from snippets of Mel Gibson-directed movie The Passion of Christ.
“The church was full to capacity. The drama performed by our young ones moved hearts and souls this morning. It was very emotional for everyone who was present,” Father McEvoy said.
“The drama portrayed the time when Christ was condemned to death by Pilate, his journey to Calvary and things that happened along the way and till the moment when he was nailed to the cross.”
In light of this, Father McEvoy said Easter, which is observed tomorrow, should be a sign of new beginning, hope and God’s mercy on our lives.
“On this day starts a new chapter of your spiritual life. Forgive those who have hurt you and take your burden to the Lord Jesus Christ. His mercy lives on forever,” he said.
“On this day we remember the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. He died so that we can be saved from our sins whether you are a believer or an unbeliever.
“The icing on the cake was when he rose on Easter Sunday and that has been our hope and his promise to us.
“It is hoped that we will live on for this life and the life afterwards.”
