Inmate Escapes From Workplace

The search is on for one inmate who escaped from his workplace on March 21.
Abdul Hakik, 35 of Natabua Corrections facility a convict is serving 21 months for an offence of obtaining property by false deception was on early release employment with Relaxer Transport of Lautoka.
Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said his employement was part of the FCS rehabilitation programme.
“These offenders who are released for work are in a verge of being fully released thus we assess them through their work before they are released back into society,” Mr Sokomuri said.
“This is usually done in order to assist them integrate better with society and also to ensure that they do not return back to Prison.”
Mr Sokomuri has reassured that the matter will not affect their rehabilitation work programme.
The Fiji Police Force and Fiji Corrections Service are seeking anyone with information on Abdul Hakik whereabouts to contact 9905205 or 917 or 919.
