Prevent Yourself Getting ‘Pink Eye’

Concerns are now in place with the number of patients visiting health facilities presenting with Conjunctivitis (pink eye). From last week around 100 patients with conjunctivitis are being seen at health facilities in Suva alone.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services continues to remind the public to ensure they maintain and adhere to good hygiene practices. This will contribute towards preventing such diseases and its spread.
Conjunctivitis is a bacterial or viral affection on the inner eyelid which causes blood vessels to become inflamed resulting in eyes appearing reddish or pink.
The Minister for Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate said that practicing good hygiene will prevent the spread of conjunctivitis.
“Conjunctivitis can be highly contagious for as long as two weeks after signs and symptoms begin. Early diagnosis and treatment can protect people around you from getting pink eye too”.
The ministry reiterates that people must take on board and practice ensuring proper hygiene as this will assist with reducing and preventing the spread of such diseases in families.
