The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has responded efficiently and effectively in addressing Typhoid cases in Tailevu.

In February a total of 14 confirmed typhoid cases were reported which have been investigated and treated. Furthermore, water samples were tested and cleared safe for consumption.

The Health Ministry along with UNICEF, World Health Organisation, Natural Disaster Management Office and Commissioner Central office have distributed WASH kits while two water tanks were set up with water refilling in these tanks ongoing.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate said the health team and its partners have worked pro-actively, and within three days, were able to reconstruct 16 existing damaged toilets with the help of the community.

“The Health Ministry has conducted necessary awareness on typhoid in this area.

“During awareness sessions, it had been raised that poor environmental sanitation often make populations in communities vulnerable to communicably transmitted diseases”.

Meanwhile, the Ministry continues to advise the public to practice proper personal hygiene.
