Vendor Tamani Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Security Officer

A Labasa Market vendor has pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (AOABH).
Akuila Tamani, 49, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Cama Tuberi in a special court sitting at the Labasa Magistrate Court.
He has been sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months by the court.
Police prosecutor Constable Mere Vacau told the court that on the evening of March 25 Tamani punched a security officer of Pioneer Security Services at the Labasa Market.
The father of the three children of Naodamu, Labasa, represented himself and admitted to the facts which were read out in court.
In his mitigation he told the court that he was a first offender and was remorseful.
Magistrate Tuberi said the maximum sentence for the offence was five years. However, considering his early plea and saving the court’s time, Magistrate Tuberi gave Tamani a six months sentence instead.
