In a bid to assist the ministries of Environment and Forests in their assessment after Tropical Cyclone Winston, a NatureFiji-MareqetiViti team was part of the ROC Market sale to raise funds to assist the two Government ministries.
NatureFiji-MareqetiViti is an organisation that aims to enhance biodiversity and habitat conservation, endangered species protection and sustainable use of natural resources of our country.
The materials sold included calendars, colouring books, pins, drawings which featured Fiji’s wildlife, endemic and endangered species.
NatureFiji-MareqetiViti director, Nunia Thomas said the funds raised by the organisation for the next three months wuld be directed towards the assessment.
“A lot of our local communities have been badly affected by the cyclone and we are hoping to raise as much funds as we can so that in the long-run we are able to assist in the assessment on how the cyclone has impacted our wildlife,”Ms Thomas said.
“We are hoping to inspire our children to know Fiji’s wildlife and study it, so they can inform their communities especially Government on the best way to address development,”she said.
