Mere Ailevu Probe Progress

Police have made significant progress concerning the brutal murder of Lomary Primary School student, Mere Ailevu, Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said yesterday.
Mere, a Year 7 student who lived at Vunibuabua Settlement in Pacific Harbour was reported missing from home on Sunday, March 14.
“I can assure them that yes we have made significant progress and they will be visited by the investigators to update them on the progress,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said in reference to Mere’s parents.
Earlier reports had stated that Police took in more than five suspects for questioning. They are believed to be from the same area where Mere lived.
Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Luke Navela, is expected to hold a press conference today and highlight the progress of their investigations.
Mere’s mother, Sili Keni, yesterday also confirmed that Police officers and a suspect known to them were at the settlement.
It is believed that they were reconstructing the alleged scene of what transpired on that fateful day – when 14-year-old Mere went missing.
“They came with the suspect and took him around to all the places where Mere was that Sunday night. They took him right up to the beach where her body was found,” Mrs Keni said.
She remains hopeful that justice will soon be served.
Mrs Keni has also acknowledged the tireless efforts put in by Police in their investigations, and members of the public who have helped them by revealing information.
So far no suspect has been charged for Mere’s brutal death. Edited by Naisa Koroi
