Sports Festival Rocks Momi

The community of Savusavu in Momi Bay came alive when the Mixed Volleyball Festival kicked-off on Monday.
Event co-ordinator Judy Kumar said it was after a long time that that such a sporting festival took place at the Savusavu ground.
“The purpose of the festival is to get the youths of Savusavu involved and help change their mindset in building a better Fiji,” Kumar said.
“Also volleyball is finally revived in Momi after a lapse of more than 10 years.
“We are looking forward to form the Momi Volleyball Association that will be part of the North West Nadroga zone.”
Overall Kumar said the mixed volleyball festival was a success.
“We managed to get everyone in the community involved. It was a day of fun.
“We planned for 16 teams to take part but instead we had to accommodate 18 teams as the community came in full force.”
During the festival, Naduruniu were crowned champions.
The Nadi based-team beat Navosa One 3-0 to walk away with $200 while the runner-up got $100.
In the semi-finals Naduruniu hammered Navosa Two 3-0 and Navosa One beat Nailaga 2-1.
Kumar said reviving volleyball in Momi is the way to go with an international resort soon to be coming up in the area.

Team Savusavu walked away with the Best Discipline Team award.
