Organisers of the Digicel Bula Festival from July 23 to 30 expect the annual carnival to be bigger and brighter.

“We are expecting the event to be much bigger and brighter than the previous years as the township is going to be named a city in 2017,” said Public Relations officer Shalendra Prasad.

He said Festival committee president Leone Naivalu was working very closely with the rest of his committee to put together another memorable and successful festival. Mr Prasad said a good part of the charity funds raised would be channeled for the upgrading of Nadi Hospital emergency ward.

“Funds from the festival have always been diverted towards upgrading of the district hospital‘s different wards and this year will be no exception,” he said.

“Our committee is now inviting aspiring girls to register their expression of interest for this year’s Bula beauty pageant.”

He said another latest attraction for business houses supporting the festival this year would be free advertising space in their new website.

“Therefore, we are pleading with the business community to come forward and join forces with us to make the festival a great success,” Mr Prasad said.

“We also request stall owners to start booking their spaces from now to avoid any last moment regret as all stalls will be on first come first serve basis,” he said.

The 56th edition of the carnival is earmarked to be held at Koroivolu Park and Prince Charles Park.

Meanwhile, Bula Festival remains the only unbroken carnival in the country which has not lapsed since 1960.
