Fijian U20 players told to work together and produce good results

Our Under-20 rugby team were told to work together and do their country proud while participating at the World Rugby U20 Trophy tournament in Zimbabwe.

The directive came from the President, Major-General (Retired) Jioji Konousi Konrote when the national U20 rugby players and officials presented their i-tatau at Government House, Suva yesterday.

He also reminded the players and officials of their national duties and that they are there as the country’s ambassadors.

“As a team, each one of you will be Fiji’s ambassador to the world so I urge all of you to work together and ensure that you make your country proud,” President Konrote said.

“The team have prepared well and the people of Fiji expect good results from this tournament.”

Fijian U20 head coach Salimoni Ravouvou said they have prepared according to what they have planned for.

“We have prepared well, mentally, physically and spiritually. We have put that all together so that when we get there the team is ready,” he said.

When asked of their chances, Ravouvou says, they will take things as they come.

“We’ll see when we get there and we expect the team to perform above expectation.”

Manager Ame Baleitamavua said the tournament is from April 19 to May 1.

“We will be training in New Zealand for two weeks before the team depart for Zimbabwe,” Baleitamavua said.

“We have a young team of talented players and this is another way of showcasing their talent at national and international levels.”
