Promoter Tells Of His Boxing Mission

Toe 2 Toe promoter Abdul Feroz is on a mission to revive boxing in the country.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, the Lomawai native from Nadroga said it is time to build-up upcoming boxers in order to have drawcards.

“Right now we don’t have any drawcard,” he said.

“A boxer that is a drawcard makes people buy tickets to watch him fight. We need to identify these boxers and nurture them well. It does not happen overnight.”

Feroz said most promoters don’t understand this process as they only want to make quick money.

“To me that’s not boxing,” he added.

Feroz said in his April 22 promotion, he has put upcoming boxers like Tomasi Dago, Savenaca Naliva, Joseva Vaileba, Simione Tui and Junior Feroz as undercards.

“These are our future champions. They have got good amateur boxing records and if groomed well they can soon be our drawcards.”

Feroz said fans are going to get their monies worth from his programme where Fiji welterweight champion Junior Farzan Ali takes on Anthony Taylor of New Zealand in the main bout.

“I call on fans to buy their tickets from any Sports World outlet near them,” he added.
