Tourism Fiji participated in one of its most successful annual ITB Berlin Travel Show at the Messe Berlin Exhibition Centre in Germany from March 9 to 13.

ITB is the world’s leading travel trade show and offers the unique opportunity for the whole global travel industry to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business under one roof.

This year marked the 50th  anniversary of the event – which is now arguably one of the largest and most widely known travel shows in the world, attracting some 186 countries, 10,000 exhibitors’ and 115,000 Trade Visitors.

Tourism Fiji had a Stand at the show located in the Asia/Pacific/Indian Ocean region. The Stand won an award, coming in at number 9 within the Asia / Australia / Pacific section.

Tourism Fiji’s Regional Director for UK/Europe Market, Jane West, said this year’s ITB Berlin travel show has been the best one yet for Fiji.

Ms West said: “There has been increased interest in Destination Fiji from trade partners, trade media and bloggers at the event.

“It has been a very fast-paced show and we have had a lot of people come to our stand. We were also encouraged to here from our existing partners that almost no cancellations have been made due to Cyclone Winston.”

“We won an award for our Stand at the show and it was not just because of the design and appearance, but also quality of staff and how visitors were greeted and dealt with.”

Tourism Fiji also hosted a networking cocktail function to take full advantage of having quality travel trade personnel at the event.

“We had 60 people attend our cocktail function, which we used to raise funds for the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Relief Fund,” Ms West said.

“One of the attendees at the Fijian Tourism Expo 2015, Jurgen Pfundel from Panther Reisen, managed to raise €10,000 (FJ$23,482) from his church group for the fund and set up a Youth Exchange Programme.”

The UK/Europe team also raised €457.54 (FJ$1074) for the relief fund through a charity raffle by selling Fiji Water during The Consumer Days.

All the funds raised by Tourism Fiji UK/Europe Office will be transferred to the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Relief Fund.
