Tuwai, Nagusa, Mulevoro left out of squad for Hong Kong and Singapore

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan has made three changes to the 14-member squad for the Hong Kong and Singapore 7s.

Pio Tuwai alongside Nemani Nagusa and Emosi Mulevoro who featured at the Las Vegas and Vancouver Sevens has been left out.

Ryan made his selection after the team’s training session at the Uprising Beach Resort yesterday which saw ‘the Beast’ Semi Kunatani making his return alongside Apisai Domolailai and Viliame Mata.

Team manager Ropate Kauvesi says Tuwai could not make it into the team because of injuries and Nagusa is a non travelling reserve in case of injuries sustained in Hong Kong.

“We have a strong team going into Hong Kong. We’ve brought back those who have recovered from injury; Apisai Domolailai and Vili Mata, it’s a big boost to the squad having those two back,” he said.

Kunatani will join the team in Hong Kong and he has been working on a programme prepared by Ryan since his return after the Sydney 7s.

Ryan highlighted that Kunatani already understands the team planning which they had been building on for the last three years and will add strength to the forwards.

Team captain Osea Kolinisau said the boys have been coping well during two tough weeks of training, knowing full well of the high expectations fans have for them.

“Our team is a mixture of youngsters and experienced, so we are looking forward to a very good tournament.

“We know everyone wants to go to Hong Kong; it’s the mega of all 7s tournaments, so everyone has been putting their hands up and showing the coach that they’ve got what it takes to go and perform in Hong Kong and Singapore,” he said.

Fiji is pooled with Canada, Wales and Korea in the Hong Kong 7s which will be held next Friday to Sunday.
