The sooner we normalise the situation for children, the sooner they will also recover, says Australian Aid Access to Quality Education Programme (AQEP) social protection specialist, Bianca Murray.

She made the comments after visiting Dobuilevu Muslim Primary School and  Bucalevu Primary School yesterday; two of the many schools devasted by Tropical Cyclone Winston in Ra.

“We want to thank the Ministry of Education for working with us in trying to see that students affected by the cyclone are provided with school books and stationery.

“We have also carried out assessments in various schools around the country under our programme that was affected by the cyclone; we have completed our immediate emergency assistance and now we will look at the long term which is the reconstruction of school buildings.

“In terms of looking at the long term; on the construction of buildings; we will also try to come up with building strategies that will prevent these kinds of problems in the future,” she said.
