The bad state of Dobuilevu Muslim Primary School in Ra fails to dampen the determination of Shavneel Chand to teach his students.
The school, which caters for more than 100 students, was severely damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston on February 20.
“I will deliver my service to the best of my ability despite the current situation that the school is at right now and I will not lose hope,” he said.
“Right now I am just trying to teach my students with what I have left from the destructive cyclone and this should not be an excuse to teachers not to deliver their service.
“Some of my students their books had been damaged during the cyclone and we had to dry them up before using them again,” he said.
Mr Chand said in times like these people should start using the resources available to them.
“The teaching environment now is completely different before the cyclone and I can see that students had been affected by this,” he said.
“Our duty as teachers during times like these when we step up and make sure that our students don’t miss out on school; even my students have learned a lot from this experience especially in terms of making use of their resources and preserving them.” Arieta Vakasukawaqa
