The Paris Agreement Ratification documents were signed yesterday by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

During the signing the Prime Minister highlighted that Fiji has become the first country in the world to formally approve the United Nations climate deal agreed by 195 nations in Paris in December, last year.

Last month, the Fijian parliament had collectively agreed to the proposed motion for the need to ratify the treaty ahead of a signing ceremony in April.

Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Esala Nayasi said that the documents would then be sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

The Prime Minister will also be attending the signing ceremony at the United Nations in New York on April 22, for the formal ratification of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
