Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) worried as reports of dog attacks have become  common.

President Dr Ram Raju said: “While Nadi continues to be the fastest growing town in the South Pacific region and is all set to become a city next year, the issue of stray dogs is worrying.”

Dr Raju said there have been cases of tourists being bitten by stray dogs and there have been known cases and deaths recorded because of stray horses as well.

“Sometime back we had invited Police to brief us on the dog situation and we were informed that it is illegal to keep any dog without a licence,” he said.

He said people who do not keep their dogs and other animals in proper and confined care could be charged by Police if they end up harming anyone.
